**Puri:** In an unfortunate incident, the carcass of a dolphin was found floating in Chilika lake near Dojarkuda area today afternoon. On intimation, Satapada forest officials rushed to the spot, recovered the carcass and sent it for post-mortem.
In similar incidents, a 5-feet-long and a 12-feet-long dolphins were also found floating on the brackish water lagoon over the last two months. A 30-feet whale had also washed to the shore of Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara, a few weeks back.
Chilika, one of the largest habitat of Irrawaddy dolphins in the world, boasted of around 180 Irrawaddy dolphins in the beginning of 2018 but it had come down to 156 by the end of the year.
The exact cause behind the death of the mammal will be ascertained after post-mortem, said forest officials.
