Kalahandi: Police handed over the body of a forester, who was found hanging from the ceiling of his official quarters at Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Wednesday, to his family members after autopsy on Thursday, said Bhawanipatna Town police station IIC Josobantna Hial.
The forester has been identified as Sanjay Nayak (35), who was engaged in the Forest Research Wing at Jaring. Nayak was a native of Rayagada and was recently transferred to Bolangir.
Police have also recovered a note from the forester’s official quarters. As Nayak’s body was found hanging with his feet touching the ground, his family members suspect some foul play in his death and lodged a complaint with police seeking fair and expeditious investigation.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother, Rabinarayan Rayagada, has filed a police report against Rayagada Forest Officer Devendra Behera at the town police station. He alleged that Devendra Behera mentally tortured Sanjay and always asked for cuts from various projects of the department in the region. This is stated in the suicide note found near Sanjay’s body, said Rabinarayan.
The police have launched an investigation to ascertain the actual cause of death.
