**Bhubaneswar**: The Odisha Government on Wednesday formed an eight-member committee to complete the process to apply for Geographical Indication (GI) status for the sweet syrup Rasagola.
Official sources said the State Government has decided to move the Centre to get the GI tag for the most loved sweet.
A high-level meeting in this regard was held by the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) department on Wednesday.
An eight member panel set up by the State government will discuss the issue.
Earlier, the Director of Industries had notified the secretaries of the department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Science and Technology department, MSME and Culture department to be present in the meeting.
Besides, the Odisha Government has decided to set up a Rasagola cluster at Pahala, famous for Rasgolla shops, allocating Rs 7.70 crore to get GI status for Pahala Rasagola.
