Bhubaneswar: Odisha is fully prepared to tackle any eventuality arising from a possible cyclonic storm brewing over the southeast Bay of Bengal, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Sunday.

With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting that the low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm within 48 hours, the state government has placed its entire machinery on high alert.

Pujari said the government has already initiated advance preparedness measures across vulnerable districts.

“We have made all necessary arrangements and additional precautions to ensure quick and effective response, even if the system intensifies further,” he told reporters.

The minister informed that district administrations, emergency units, and field-level officials have been instructed to remain vigilant. Departments linked to disaster response—including health, panchayati raj, and women and child development—have been directed to activate their preparedness protocols.

“From doctors and paramedical staff to ASHA and Anganwadi workers, all frontline personnel are ready. The administrative and health infrastructure is fully geared up to handle any situation,” Pujari said.

He added that he would arrive in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening to oversee preparations and conduct a ground-level assessment.

“Tonight, I will review the situation personally. From tomorrow, I will hold review meetings with all departments to ensure seamless coordination,” he said.

According to the IMD, the developing system is expected to bring rainfall to several coastal districts of Odisha between November 25 and 27.
