Bhubaneswar: Odisha is fully prepared to tackle any eventuality arising from the developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari assured on Friday.
Amid forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicating the possible formation of a cyclonic storm by October 27, the Minister said that the state government has taken proactive measures and urged the public not to panic.
“Whether or not a cyclone forms, the authorities are ready. The public is urged not to panic,” Pujari stated.
He added that cyclone shelters have been readied, the health department is on alert, and adequate stocks of dry food have been ensured. The government is also prepared to evacuate people from vulnerable areas if required.
The Energy department has been placed on high alert to ensure swift restoration in case of disruptions, while officials have been instructed to stay vigilant and respond promptly to any situation.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure system currently over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression by Saturday, and further into a deep depression by October 26. It is expected to move west-northwestwards and may take the shape of a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 27.
The Minister emphasized that the state is equipped to handle heavy rainfall and any potential impact if the system develops into a cyclone.
