Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and MoS for PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, has highlighted Odisha’s growing importance in the Centre’s strategic roadmap for nuclear energy and marine resource development.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Minister referred to a meeting with Odisha Cabinet Minister for Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare and Science & Technology, Krushna Chandra Patra, who presented a series of proposals concerning the state’s development priorities.

Dr. Singh noted that, for the first time since the Narendra Modi government assumed office, ocean resources are being systematically harnessed through coordinated institutional efforts. He emphasised that the Centre is working in close collaboration with coastal states to unlock the economic potential of marine and ocean-based resources.

The Eastern Coastal Region, including Odisha, figures prominently in the current Union Budget’s nuclear and marine roadmap.

According to the Minister, Odisha has been selected as one of the four Rare Earth Corridors announced for the country — a move expected to strengthen India’s critical mineral supply chain and boost strategic industries.

The Minister also pointed to enabling provisions being introduced for deep-sea fishing, which are likely to significantly benefit coastal communities and accelerate the growth of the State’s blue economy.

Additionally, Dr Singh mentioned the proposed Bio-E3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) initiative aimed at transforming Odisha’s coastal economy through biotechnology-driven interventions. The initiative seeks to enhance marine productivity, ensure sustainability, and create value-added economic opportunities.
