Odisha Government Braces Up For World No Tobacco Day

**Bhubaneswar:** As the World No Tobacco Day is on May 31, Odisha Health Department on Monday (May 29) held a preparatory meeting to mark the occasion and initiate activities in the public interest.

A high level meeting in this regard was held at the State Secretariat presided over by Health Minister Pratap Jena.

Briefing media after the meeting, Health Secretary Dr Pramod Meherda said, “A meeting was held chaired by the honb’le Minister. Our efforts will be on to maintain the inter-sectoral coordination. Hence, we had invited different departments and the police authorities also participated in the important meeting. All have assured to enforce the ban on gutkha and tobacco products.”

“We’ve prepared an action plan. On May 31 we’ll observe the World No Tobacco Day. We’ll launch a week-long intensified campaign. We’ll not only aware the public, but also resort to enforcement activities so that the people could know about the provisions in the Act,” Dr Meherda informed.
