Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the importance of increasing government manpower to enhance public services during a meeting with the chairpersons of various recruitment commissions at Lok Seva Bhawan today.
According to an official press release, on the first day of the year, the Chief Minister chaired a discussion aimed at expediting the recruitment process to fill vacant positions in government departments across the state. Stressing the need for a flawless, impartial, and swift recruitment process, he urged prioritizing essential services such as health, housing, education, and agriculture to ensure these departments are adequately staffed.
The state government has set an ambitious target of making 1.5 lakh appointments over the next five years, with plans to fill 65,000 government posts within two years. Currently, 1,10,557 vacancies exist in various departments. To address this, the Chief Minister directed all departments to submit proposals to the recruitment commissions by March 31, 2025.
He also called for a special recruitment drive within a set timeframe to address vacancies reserved for Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes.
To streamline the process, the Chief Minister announced that the approval of the Empowered Committee would no longer be required for filling Group-B category posts. He proposed reconstituting the Empowered Committee in the Finance Department to oversee the recruitment of differently-abled individuals, including a representative from the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department.
For the convenience of candidates from the undivided Koraput district, the Chief Minister proposed establishing an Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) examination center in Jeypore. Currently, OPSC operates five examination centers.
The meeting was attended by OPSC Chairman Arun Sarangi, Odisha Staff Selection Commission Chairman Abhay, Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission Chairman Lalit Das, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal, and Additional Chief Secretary of General Administration & Public Grievances Department Surendra Kumar, along with members and secretaries of the commissions.
