Bhubaneswar: The government has declared the unseasonal rains in 16 districts of the state as a ‘natural calamity’ and has initiated assistance from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) to affected farmers. This assistance is provided to farmers who have suffered 33% or more crop loss. An input subsidy of Rs 291.59 crore is being provided to affected farmers from the SDRF fund.
According to district administration reports, 6,66,720 farmers have suffered more than 33% loss on 2,26,791 hectares of land. Assistance is being provided to these farmers. The government received the report on January 1, following a survey conducted on December 30 and 31.
In Angul district, 75.61 hectares of crops have been damaged, with assistance of Rs 6,99,808 provided. Similarly, Rs 1,56,74,000 has been allocated for 1,040 hectares of damaged crops in Bargarh district. Other districts have also received assistance: Rs 24,36,96,615 for 19,180.42 hectares in Cuttack district, Rs 19,30,435 for 196.81 hectares in Dhenkanal district, and so on.
