Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has appealed to all eligible citizens in the State to take precaution dose of the Covid vaccine.
“I would like to appeal all eligible people in the 18-59-year age group to turn up in large numbers and take Covid vaccine’s precaution dose,” said State Nodal Officer for Immunization Dr Bijay Panigrahi.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Panigrahi cautioned that though the daily Covid-19 infection tally has dipped below 1000 over the last few days it can at any moment shoot up.
“The only defence that we have against Covid infection is vaccination. Therefore, all should avail vaccine doses that are available for free to eligible citizens at the government-run Covid Vaccination Centres since it may not be available for free after September 30 and one may have to pay for it. So it will be our target that all eligible citizens in the 18-59-year age group get their precaution doses by September 30,” the State Nodal Officer for Immunization stated.
He said that the emphasis is on getting people vaccinated with the Covid vaccine’s precaution dose.
He informed that in the 60 years and above age group category 26% have received their precaution doses.
“But the 18-59-year age group which is about 2.65 crore, we have achieved only 8% of our total target which means only 22.84 lakh have received their precaution dose,” he said.
