Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards strengthening road safety and traffic management across the state, the Odisha government on Thursday approved the creation of 2,000 new posts under its Traffic and Road Safety Wing.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made the announcement on his official account on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the state’s commitment to enhancing public safety and easing traffic congestion through improved infrastructure and manpower.
Of the total sanctioned positions, 70 will be created at the state level and 1,930 at the district level.
According to the Chief Minister, the move is part of a broader strategy to ensure more effective traffic regulation and road safety enforcement across Odisha.
At the state level, key posts to be created include: one Additional Director General (ADG) or Inspector General (IG) of Police, one Deputy Inspector General (DIG), two Superintendents of Police (SP), four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP), six Inspectors, eight Sub-Inspectors (SI), eight Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI), 22 Constables, and 10 Drivers. In addition, one Establishment Officer, one Section Officer, three Assistant Section Officers (ASOs), and three Junior Assistants will also be appointed to support administrative functions.
“The creation of these posts will significantly bolster the state’s traffic management capacity and bring about a more streamlined, efficient system,” Majhi stated.
At the district level, the newly approved positions include five DSPs, 41 Inspectors, 83 SIs, 83 ASIs, 310 Havildars, and 1,408 Constables. The expansion is expected to address manpower shortages and ensure better enforcement of traffic regulations across districts.
The government’s move is being seen as a timely intervention to address growing concerns over road safety and increasing vehicular congestion, particularly in urban areas.
