Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to strengthen the state’s policing capacity, the Odisha government on Friday approved the proposal for recruitment of 4,219 constables in the Odisha Police through direct recruitment.
According to an letter issued by the Home Department, the proposal from the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack to fill up these vacancies has received government approval after due consideration. The recruitment process will be conducted in accordance with the relevant statutory and recruitment rules.
Deputy Secretary to Government, Tarun Kumar Panda, in a letter addressed to the Director General and Inspector General of Police, Odisha, has directed that all procedures and norms prescribed in the recruitment rules be strictly followed. The recruitment process will also adhere to the state’s reservation policy and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department on 22 September 2025.
The large-scale recruitment drive is expected to enhance manpower in the Odisha Police and improve law enforcement capabilities across the state.
The DG and IG of Police have been asked to take necessary steps for initiating the recruitment process in compliance with all procedural requirements.
