Bhubaneswar: Two deaths due to sunstroke and 367 cases of heat-related illnesses have been reported in Odisha so far, informed Public Health Director Dr Niranjan Mishra on Tuesday.
Dr Mishra said that the maximum number of people affected by heat-related illnesses are from Sundargarh.
“Around 60 cases have been reported from Sundargarh and 50 cases are from Mayurbhanj. As I have told earlier two deaths due to sunstroke have been confirmed,” stated Dr Mishra.
The Public Health Director opined that the responsibility lies with the people to reduce sunstrokes.
“They should avoid going out in the sun. Stay indoors during the peak hours. Unless unavoidable don’t go out in the sun. If going out is unavoidable then take adequate precautions. Drink sufficient water. Carry a wet towel and an umbrella. Take rest intermittently under the shade of a tree,” the Public Health Director advised.
