NIA Police Station

Bhubaneswar: In a significant administrative move, the Odisha government has officially established a dedicated National Investigation Agency (NIA) police station in Bhubaneswar to oversee operations across the state.

The notification was issued by the Home Department under the powers conferred by the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

According to an official notification, the office of the Superintendent of Police in charge of the NIA Police Station, located at the Regional Telecom Training Centre (BSNL), Vani Vihar, VSS Nagar, Bhubaneswar, has been designated as a full-fledged police station. The jurisdiction of this newly established station will extend across the entire state of Odisha.

This move aims to strengthen the investigation of offences listed under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, which includes terror-related crimes and other scheduled offences of national importance.

“In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 2(1)(u) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (46 of 2023), the State Government hereby declares the office specified in Column (1) of the Schedule below as a Police Station for the area specified in Column (2) thereof, in respect of the investigation of scheduled offences under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (34 of 2008), for exercising the powers under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (46 of 2023). This shall come into force on the date of publication of this notification in the Odisha Gazette,” the notification stated.

The decision is expected to streamline investigation procedures for national security-related cases within Odisha and enhance coordination with central agencies.
