Bhubaneswar: To enhance security infrastructure and policing capacity in the state’s industrial hubs, the Odisha Government has approved the establishment of two new Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) battalions, creating 1,944 new posts across various ranks. Each battalion will comprise 972 personnel, including 68 positions to meet service requirements.
The Home Department issued a notification in this regard.
In a letter dated July 22, 2025, Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu informed the Accountant General (Audit and Accounts) that the proposal for creating the 2nd OISF battalion, initially mooted in April this year, is being taken forward.
“I am directed to convey the sanction of Governor for creation of 1944 posts in various ranks for creation of 02 (two) new Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) Battalion in the State i.e. 3rd and 4th OISF battalion, in the level of pay mentioned against each and other allowances sanctioned by Government from time to time with effect from the date the posts are actually filled up in the said battalion,” Sahu wrote.
The Odisha Government has approved the creation of 1,944 new positions across two OISF battalions, including Commandants, Deputy Commandants, Assistant Commandants, Armed Inspectors, Armed Sub-Inspectors, Armed Assistant Sub-Inspectors, Havildars, Constables, Ministerial staff, Armourer staff, and Communication staff, with a directive to follow a transparent recruitment process and adhere to the Odisha Revised Service Pay (ORSP) Rules, 2017, and the Odisha Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (ORV) Act.
Going by the letter, both battalions include two Commandants, six Deputy Commandants, 16 Assistant Commandants, 24 Armed Inspectors, 54 Armed Sub-Inspectors, 126 Armed Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 256 Havildars, 1,350 Constables, 14 Ministerial staff including clerks and stenographers, 30 Armourer staff and 66 Communication staff.
In a significant boost to the state’s security infrastructure, the Odisha Government has approved the creation of the 3rd and 4th battalions of the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF). This decision comes just a few months after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the addition of the 2nd OISF battalion with 1,040 posts in April this year.
With the latest approval, the OISF will now comprise four battalions, with a total strength of 4,791 personnel. This marks a significant expansion from the initial single battalion with 1,807 posts. The addition of the 2nd battalion had already increased the strength to 2,847 posts, and the latest development will further enhance the force’s capabilities to safeguard industrial hubs across the state.
