Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has formed a high-level committee to investigate the alleged harassment of a girl student at FM College, Balasore, which led to her attempting to immolate herself. The committee, constituted by the Higher Education Department, will conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident.
The committee consists of Kali Prasanna Mohapatra, Director of Higher Education, Mousumi Nayak, Joint Secretary of Higher Education Department, and Prof. (Dr.) Jhumki Rath, B.J.B. (Auto) College, Bhubaneswar.
The committee will ascertain the circumstances leading to the self-immolation attempt, investigate the involvement of Samira Kumar Sahu, Assistant Professor, and examine the role of the college administration, Principal, and Internal Complaint Committee in dealing with prior complaints.
It will also identify any lapses on the part of individuals or authorities and look into any other incidental matters that emerge during the inquiry. The committee is authorised to seek assistance from any person deemed necessary and will submit its report to the Higher Education Department.
