Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government increased the accidental death benefit for construction workers from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh and the natural death benefit from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made the announcement at a ceremony organized by the Labour and Employees State Insurance Department at Lok Seva Bhavan.
Addressing the gathering, Majhi highlighted the crucial role of construction workers in building the state’s infrastructure. “You are the backbone of construction. Without you, it’s impossible to design roads, railways, buildings, factories, ports, and airports”, he said.
Majhi emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting labourers.
The Odisha Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board has been established to provide social security to workers in times of need. Majhi urged workers to register with the board to access various schemes and benefits. The government has also launched a portal, ‘Mo Seva’, to facilitate registration and provide assistance.
Minister of State for Labour and Employees State Insurance, Ganesh R Singhkhuntia, reiterated the board’s objective of ensuring the welfare and social security of construction workers and their families. Several beneficiaries received financial assistance from the Chief Minister on the occasion.
This move is expected to benefit thousands of construction workers in Odisha.
