**Bhubaneswar:** With price of coal going up substantially and the government taking steps to provide quality power, the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) on Thursday increased electricity tariff by 10 paise for retail consumers for 2017-18.
The rate till 50 units for household and agriculture sectors remained unchanged.
The average tariff has been hiked by 1.44%.
Tariff remain unchanged for first 50 units for domestic consumers, agricultural sectors.
General consumers will get a discount of 5 paisa/unit for payments on time, 1 per cent for making online payment.
“The commission has increased the retail supply tariff by 1.44% for 2017-18 financial year. The OERC has not hiked the tariffs for agriculture activities, domestic consumers with less than 50 units consumption and for BPL families. Apart from these, the tariffs have been hiked by 10 paisa per unit for every other consumers including, industries, public institutions, general purpose, and other categories of consumers,’ said Priyabrat Patnaik, Director of Regulatory Affairs of OERC.
