Jharsuguda: 29-year-old Tanuja Bage, a national level football goalkeeper who has brought laurels to the State and nation, is eking out livelihood by herding goats and working as housemaid in Jharsuguda. However, her struggle days are near to end as Odisha government has initiated steps to provide her with a job.
After media reports and a probe by Jharsuguda Collector, Sports and Youth Services Minister Tusharkanti Behera on Thursday directed officials to provide immediate assistance to the footballer.
District Collector Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan visited her house and found out that Tanuja had ended her career in sports due to financial problems. Based on her achievements, she had been provided with a job as homeguard, however the pay was low for sustenance. With a six-year-old girl child to support, Tanuja began to work as a maid. She remained absent from her job as homeguard for few years and finally her name was struck out.
Pradhan promised her that she would be given a well-paying job in order to lead a comfortable life.
In August 2018, OMMCOM NEWS had published a report throwing light on Tanuja’s living conditions and her memories as a footballer. Check it out here: Poverty-Stricken National Football Team Goalkeeper Turns Housemaid To Eke Out Living In Odisha
