Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today inked a revised concession agreement for the development and expansion of Gopalpur port.
The agreement was inked between the Commerce & Transport Department with Gopalpur Port Limited in the conference hall of the Commerce & Transport Department at Kharvela Bhavan here today in the presence of Minister Padmanav Behera, departmental Principal Secretary Bishnupada Sethi, Gopalpur port authorities.
Gopalpur port situated at Arjipalli in Ganjam district was operated and managed by the State Government’s Commerce & Transport Department.
To develop and expand Gopalpur port into an all-season port, the Commerce & Transport Department on September 14 in 2006 signed an agreement with Gopalpur Port Ltd, a port management agency of Odisha Stevedores Limited (OSL) under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode as a result of which it has transformed from a seasonal port to an all-season port.
Later in 2017 on January 18, M/s Shapoorji Pallonji Port Maintenance Pvt Ltd (SPML) joined the management of Gopalpur Port and due to a change in shareholding and acquisition of the majority shareholding by SPML, management of the port was transferred to SPML from OSL.
Change in management of the port necessitated inking of a revised concession agreement, said Minister Behera.
