Bhubaneswar: Due to incessant rainfall in Jharkhand and Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, the Odisha Government’s Department of Water Resources (DoWR) has issued a flood warning for several rivers in the region.
Water levels are rising in the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka rivers. As of 6 pm today, the Subarnarekha River at Rajghat recorded 8.71 meters, below the danger level of 10.36 meters. Budhabalanga at Govindpura stood at 7.12 meters (danger level: 8.13 meters), while Jalaka at Mathani rose to 7.15 meters, slightly above its danger mark of 6.50 meters.
The DoWR expects peak floods with the Subarnarekha reaching 11.25 meters by 2 am, Budhabalanga at 8.20 meters by 9 am tomorrow, and Jalaka peaking at 7.50 meters by midnight.
The State Flood Cell is working round-the-clock to monitor the situation. The Collector of Balasore has been alerted to expedite evacuation and relief operations. Senior engineers from DoWR have been dispatched to Balasore to assist with on-ground flood management.
Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to stay alert and follow official advisories.
