Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has taken serious note of the alleged gang rape of a minor girl in Dhauli on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, with Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan indicating that steps are being considered to ensure speedy justice in cases of crimes against women.
Reacting to the incident on Tuesday, the Law Minister said the government is contemplating the establishment of a Fast Track Women’s Court to expedite the trial of cases involving atrocities against women.
“The police are investigating the matter and, as usual, we take crimes against women very seriously,” Harichandan said. He added that the police department is taking all necessary steps in the case.
Referring to earlier incidents, the minister said the police had acted swiftly and arrested the accused without delay, expressing confidence that a similar course of action would be followed in the Dhauli case as well.
“In the previous cases, the culprits were arrested in no time. The same thing will follow this time also. I hope the accused will be behind bars soon and the prosecution will begin shortly,” he stated.
The incident has triggered concern over women’s safety in the capital region, prompting renewed discussions within the government on strengthening legal mechanisms for faster justice delivery.
