Bhubaneswar: In a move aimed at strengthening the judicial infrastructure and ensuring faster delivery of justice, the Odisha Government has notified the establishment of new Additional District Judge (Vigilance) Courts in three districts—Puri, Nayagarh, and Kendrapara.
The decision was announced through a notification issued by the Law Department on Monday. These vigilance courts are being set up under the powers conferred by Section 3 and Sub-section (1) of Section 9, read with Section 10 of the Odisha Civil Courts Act, 1984, and Sub-section (1) of Section 8 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The move has been made in consultation with the Orissa High Court.
In addition, the state government has sanctioned the creation of eight new Additional District Judge (ADJ) courts at Pipili (Puri), Ranapur (Nayagarh), Banapur (Khordha), Basudevpur (Bhadrak), Talcher (Angul), Rajgangpur (Sundargarh), Banki (Cuttack), and G. Udayagiri (Kandhamal).
These newly notified courts are also established under the Odisha Civil Courts Act, 1984, with the concurrence of the Orissa High Court, and are expected to ease the caseload burden and improve accessibility to judicial services in their respective regions.
