Odisha Govt Official Caught Taking Bribe, Arrested

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Tuesday arrested Asst. Section Officer (ASO) in the Establishment Section of the Office of Engineer-In-Chief, Water Resources Saumya Ranjan Dash for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a complainant for processing his house building loan file for sanction of loan.

According to an official press release, based on a complaint, officials of the anti-corruption agency laid on Tuesday wherein accused ASO Saumya Ranjan Dash was caught. The officials caught accused Dash in his office room while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Dash and seized in the presence of witnesses.

The left hand wash as well as the pant pocket wash of Dash gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money.

Following the trap, the Vigilance has launched simultaneous searches at the Govt. quarter of Dash at Unit-9, Bhubaneswar and his parental house at Demala, under Aul police limits in Kendrapara district.

Dash has been arrested and will be forwarded to court.

Vigilance has registered a case against Dash under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
