Bhubaneswar: The state government has given an incentive of Rs 31.10 crore to about 1 lakh eligible dairy farmers of OMFED.
The amount has been directly transferred to the farmers’ accounts through DBT by OMFED. The incentive amount has been transferred to the bank accounts of farmers who provided milk to OMFED between September 2024 and February 2025, in proportion to the milk supplied.
Generally, the September to February period is considered a lean phase for milk production, lasting six months. During this time, OMFED announced an incentive of Rs 1 to Rs 5 per litre to encourage farmers and strengthen their financial situation, with financial assistance provided by the state government.
There are 11 district milk cooperative societies in the state. Cuttack District Milk Cooperative Society has the maximum number of farmers, with 33,000 members, followed by Balasore with 18,000 farmers. OMFED stated that the incentive process will continue next year. Additionally, the state government is considering providing an incentive of Rs 2 per litre to OMFED’s dairy farmers throughout the year, said Managing Director Vijay Amruta Kulange.
