Bhubaneswar: The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department of the Odisha government today republished the draft of reservation of seats for the post of President of Zilla Parishads (ZPs) across the State.
As per the notification of the draft list published by the Panchayati Raj department, 10 ZP president posts have been marked for candidates from the unreserved category.
ZP president posts in the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Boudh, Bhadrak, and Jajpur have been marked for candidates from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category.
Similarly, ZP president posts in the districts of Kandhamal, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Sudargarh have been marked reserved for candidates from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
Besides, 50% of the seats have been reserved for women candidates.
In the notification, members of the public have been asked to submit suggestions or objections within 10 days of the publication of the draft list (by 3.01.2022 5.30 PM).
The notification says that the public can file their suggestions and objections through email dir-pr.od@gov.in or prsec.or@nic.in
It is pertinent to mention here that the Orissa High Court on December 22 had ordered the Odisha government to withdraw the earlier published notification on reservation of seats for the offices of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) for forthcoming panchayat elections in the State and publish a fresh draft notification.
The High Court had directed the State government to invite objections on the reservation guidelines till January 3, 2022, and resolve the objections by January 5.
