Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the horrific incident in Balanga, Puri district—where a minor girl was set ablaze by miscreants—Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday assured that the state government is fully prepared to airlift the victim to AIIMS Delhi if her medical condition permits.
The girl, currently battling for her life with 70% burn injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, is under close observation. The Chief Minister said the State Health Minister, Health Department, and the CMO are in constant contact with AIIMS authorities, and all possible measures are being taken to ensure the best possible care.
“If the AIIMS Bhubaneswar Director grants medical clearance, and the patient’s condition is stable for airlifting, we are ready to shift her to AIIMS Delhi without any delay,” CM Majhi stated.
Calling the incident “unfortunate and deeply disturbing,” the Chief Minister emphasized his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and reaffirmed that the strictest possible punishment will be meted out to the perpetrators. A special police team has already detained several individuals and is conducting a full-scale investigation.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s broader commitment to ensuring the dignity, safety, and rights of all citizens—especially women. He said this commitment is central to the government’s vision for a “Samruddha Odisha by 2036 and 2047.”
The incident has sparked public outrage across Odisha. The government has promised swift justice and stringent action, sending a clear message that crimes against women will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
