Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has placed Sarpanch of Barahipur Gram Panchayat under Mahanga Block in Cuttack under suspension with immediate effect.
The action was taken against sarpanch Rasmita Swain for allegedly misappropriating government funds to the tune of Rs. 2,07,248¹.
The allegations against Swain include misusing funds for various purposes, including purchase of two air conditioner at Rs. 1,35,000, electrification of Rs. 20,248, Radhesyam School Dismantling of Rs. 48,000 and Rs 4000 for AC Transportation.
According to reports, Swain has violated provisions of the Odisha Gram Panchayat Act, 1964, and abused her power, acting in a manner prejudicial to the interests of panchayat’s residents.
The suspension order was issued under Section 115(2) of the Odisha Gram Panchayat Act, 1964, and disciplinary proceedings will be initiated under Section 115(1) of the same Act.
