Bhubaneswar: The Housing and Urban Development Department has set a target to make the ‘Mo Bus’ services available to 1 lakh passengers in Bhubaneswar, Khurda and Cuttack by December 2019. At a meeting at the Lok Seva Bhavan here on Wednesday, H & UD Minister Pratap Jena said that the introduction of Mo Bus service has supported traffic control and checked overall vehicular emissions in the Twin City.
Jena urged the public to make maximum utilisation of the Mo Bus services for commuting within the local areas. While the State Government grants a subsidy of Rs 55 crore annually for the service, Jena proposed to procure and induct 50 electric buses to the existing fleet.
Chief Minister Naveen Patanik had inaugurated Mo Bus service on November 6, 2018 from Bhubaneswar. The service is operated by Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) – BBSR, Cuttack, Puri. Currently, the Mo Bus service operates in 20 routes and caters to 70,000 passengers on a daily basis with 1,800 trips. The Minister proposed to increase the number of routes in phases.
