Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Minister for Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, Gokulananda Mallik, announced on Wednesday that the state government will compensate poultry farmers affected by the recent bird flu outbreak.
Farmers will receive Rs 20 for each small chicken culled and Rs 70 for larger ones, said Mallik.
The avian flu outbreak has been confirmed in two blocks of Puri district—Pipili and Sakhigopal—following positive test results from samples sent to Bhopal. In response, more than 30,000 chickens were culled in these areas to prevent the spread of the disease.
The government is also implementing safety measures to ensure safe transportation of poultry in the affected regions.
