Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to bolster security arrangements and expedite development works at Govardhan Peeth, the revered spiritual seat of Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who chaired a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan on Friday, emphasized the need to upgrade the security cover for the Shankaracharya and ensure the preservation and growth of the historic Peeth.
The meeting included detailed discussions on the conservation of existing structures and the execution of new developmental initiatives at Govardhan Peeth in Puri town.
The Chief Minister directed all concerned departments and officials to work in close coordination for effective implementation of these projects.
Majhi also urged members of the Govardhan Peeth Trust Board to proactively share proposals and developmental priorities with the state government for timely support and action.
To strengthen the infrastructure around the Peeth, the Chief Minister instructed the Puri Collector to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) focused on peripheral development of the area.
In a separate directive aimed at boosting spiritual tourism, the Chief Minister called on the Puri district administration to take necessary steps to attract more devotees and visitors to the Mahodadhi Alati, the evening prayer ritual held on Puri beach.
“The state government is fully committed to the development and preservation of Govardhan Peeth, a key spiritual and cultural landmark,” Majhi affirmed.
The meeting was attended by Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Puri MP Sambit Patra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary Revenue & Disaster Management Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh, and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Kumar Padhee, among other senior officials.
