Bhubaneswar: In a bid to promote social harmony, Odisha Government will give a cash award of Rs 2.5 lakh to a normal person for marrying a Person with Disability (PwD).
As per the revised guideline, an incentive of Rs 2.5 lakh in cash instead of Rs 50,000 earlier will be provided to the couple for the wedding between a normal person and a PwD, said Bhaskar Sharma, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department.
Sharma on Tuesday wrote a letter to Collectors of all districts in this regard to encourage and facilitate such marriages so as to mainstream PwDs in society.
According to the guideline in order to be eligible for the cash incentive, it is mandatory that the groom and bride should have completed 21 and 18 years of age respectively and both should be residents of Odisha.
