Bhubaneswar: The state government will ensure all necessary facilities for a minor girl from Balanga in Puri district who sustained 70 per cent burn injuries after being set ablaze by unidentified miscreants, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on social media platform X.
The girl was airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, for advanced treatment after initially receiving care at the Pipili Community Health Centre and AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Taking to X, the Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
“I am deeply saddened by the incident that took place in Balanga, Puri district. The victim has been airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for the best possible treatment. The state government will ensure all necessary facilities for her. I personally pray to Lord Jagannath for her speedy recovery,” Majhi posted.
The attack occurred on July 19 near a river embankment, where unidentified assailants allegedly poured petrol and kerosene on the girl before setting her on fire. Despite suffering severe injuries, she managed to reach a nearby house, from where locals rushed her to the nearest health facility.
In response, the state police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The team has been directed to expedite the investigation and identify those involved. Scientific teams, including K9 units, have inspected the crime scene, while senior police officials are supervising the inquiry.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern, with authorities vowing swift justice.
