Odisha Govt To Set Up Riverine Port On Mahanadi, Second Phase Bidding To Start Soon

**Bhubaneswar**: The second High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) meeting to discuss the setting up of a riverine port on Mahanadi River in Akhadasali village under Mahakalapada Block in Kendrapada district was held today evening in the capital city.

In the meeting that was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, it was decided all the four developers who had submitted their application would get to participate in the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage. In-principle approval to the project, Draft RFP, Draft Concession Agreement and Land Lease Agreement will also been given to the four applicants. It was decided in the meeting that the second phase bidding among the four contenders would begin soon.

According to reports, the four major port developing agencies are Hindustan Ports Private Limited, Adani Ports and SEZ Limited, Essar Port Limited and Navayuga Engineering Company Limited.

The port will be set-up in two phases. In the first phase, two berths will be set up that will be used for transportation of 18.43 million tones cargo per annum. 175 hectares of land and Rs 2110 crore of expenditure has been estimated for the first phase. In the second phase, 27 million tonnes of cargo will be transported.

It was also decided that the riverine port will be connected to NH-53 and the Haridaspur-Paradip Railway line for transportation of cargo. For this, an additional of 125 hectares of land is required. This step will increase the capacity of cargo transportation from 18.43 million tonnes per annum to 45.88 million tones per annum.

The establishment of this riverine port will ensure direct and indirect employment of more than 10,000 people. Implementation of the project is planned on build, own, operate, share and transfer (BOOST) model.

By January 19 next year, the entire project is set to be finalized.
