Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art Science City in Bhubaneswar, aimed at promoting scientific development and contributing to the broader vision of a Viksit Odisha by 2036.
The announcement was made by Science & Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Thursday.
He stated that the proposed Science City will serve as a hub for innovation, learning, and public engagement in science and technology.
“I recently visited the Science City in Ahmedabad of Gujarat to study its structure and operations. Inspired by its model and following the suggestion of the Chief Minister Majhi, we have decided to develop a similar facility in Bhubaneswar,” said Minister Patra. “Scientific development is vital for the state’s growth and this initiative will play a key role in achieving our Viksit Odisha 2036 goal.”
The Minister added that several Odia officers posted in Ahmedabad have expressed their willingness to support the project and collaborate on knowledge-sharing for the proposed facility.
In a broader initiative to enhance scientific infrastructure across the state, Patra further announced that science parks, science centers, or planetariums will be established in every district of Odisha.
“We are planning to develop at least one science-related project—be it a science park, center, or planetarium—in each district to encourage scientific curiosity among students and the general public,” he said.
