Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has permanently withheld the pensionary benefits of Ramesh Chandra Behera, former Assistant Commercial Tax Officer at Unified Check Gate, Chikiti in Ganjam district, following his conviction in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

Behera was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and Section 109 of the IPC for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur had earlier convicted him and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine.

In the wake of his conviction, Odisha Vigilance moved the competent authority to take disciplinary action. Acting on the recommendation, the authority invoked provisions under the OCS (Pension) Rules, 1992 and ordered that Behera’s pensionary benefits be withheld in full and permanently.
