Odisha Govt’s Novel Plan To Curb Junk Food Consumption With ‘Oil Boards’

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to promote healthy eating habits and reduce the consumption of junk food, the Odisha government has launched a unique initiative. The state plans to put “oil boards” at various public institutions, including Anganwadi centres, childcare centres, and Shakti Sadan, to raise awareness about the health risks associated with excessive oil consumption.

These boards will display the oil content in popular deep-fried snacks like samosa, pakoda, and aloo chop, as well as highlight the potential health hazards of consuming such foods, including heart disease, obesity, liver disorders, and high blood pressure.

The Department of Odisha Women and Child Development has directed all district collectors to implement the initiative, ensuring the boards are displayed in both Odia and English to reach a wider audience.
Officials believe this move will educate citizens, particularly women and children, about the dangers of unhealthy eating habits and encourage them to make informed, healthier food choices.
