Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Sunday emphasised the importance of value-based education in shaping a peaceful and progressive society. Speaking at the inauguration of the “Value Education Programme for Teachers” at Vivekananda Hall of the Ramakrishna Mission here, he said teachers play a pivotal role in nurturing both knowledge and character among students.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, the Governor said, “Education is not merely the accumulation of information but also the development of inner peace, strength, and character.” He urged teachers to inspire students to be fearless in thought, compassionate in action, and committed to serving humanity.
Highlighting India’s rich civilisational heritage, Kambhampati noted that Indian values reflect truth, religion, peace, love, and non-violence — principles meant to be practiced in daily life. He stressed that values should not be taught only from textbooks but embedded in daily experiences, guiding both students and institutions toward ethical conduct and social responsibility.
The Governor lauded the Ramakrishna Mission for its contributions to education, social service, and spiritual awakening. “Inspired by the ideals of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda, the Mission has consistently promoted a balanced education system integrating intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth,” he added.
Referring to the current global situation marked by conflicts and instability, Kambhampati highlighted the urgent need for promoting understanding, tolerance, and dialogue. He reiterated that real national strength lies not only in economic progress but also in the character of its citizens.
Swami Bodhamayananda, Adhyaksha of Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad, addressed the programme, while Swami Atmaprabhananda, Adhyaksha of the Ramakrishna Mission, delivered the welcome address. Dr. Chandi Das, President of the Ramakrishna Mission, proposed the vote of thanks.
