Odisha: Helper Torches Truck Over Non-Payment Of Salary

Paradip: Helper of a goods-laden truck from Odisha allegedly set the vehicle on fire in Jharkhand on Saturday over non-payment of salary.

Reportedly, after transporting Gypsum from Paradip to Shree Cement Plant in Jharkhand, the vehicle bearing number OD-05-Y-1490 was parked inside the plant premises.

As per other truck drivers, the helper complained that his employer has not paid his salary from 3 months and even the driver is harassing him.

Irate over this, he called the truck owner in the afternoon for payment of salary, but as the owner said he will get the salary after returning to Odisha, he poured diesel inside the vehicle.

While the driver attempted to stop him, the helper brandished a knife and threatened to kill him if he comes near the truck. Later in the evening, he torched the vehicle and was watching it burn.

Immediately, security staff of the Cement plant took him under their custody and informed police. As per last reports, both the driver and helper of the truck are under detention.
