Odisha Hikes Bus Fares
**Bhubaneswar:** Amidst the rising fuel prices across the country and never-ending protests against the same, the Odisha Government’s Transport Department on Monday hiked bus fares across all classes of the public vehicles.
Odisha Private Bus Owners Association Secretary, Debendra Sahu informed that the fare of Ordinary bus has been increased to 70 paise per km while the fare of Express buses has been increased to 73 paise per km. Similarly, the fare of Deluxe bus has been increased to Rs 1.1 per km and for AC Deluxe the fare has been increased to Rs 1. 23 per km.
After the enforcement of the dynamic pricing mechanism, the Odisha Government and Bus Associations here agreed to hike or reduce bus fares under the criteria listed below:
1) With Rs 2 surge in diesel price, the fares of Ordinary and Express buses will be increased by 1 paise per kilometre.
2) With Rs 2 surge in diesel price, the fares of Deluxe and AC Deluxe buses will be increased by 2 Paise per kilometre.
“The fare increase announced today was due to the unprecedented hike in diesel prices. Since the last time, the bus fares were revised, today the diesel prices have shot up by Rs 5.20,” Sahu added.
