**Bhubaneswar:** One might feel that Khageswar Deheri of Bargarh has paid a heavy price by styling his hair in a weird way for Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup, but Deheri will have you believe that Rs 1000 for the eye-catching hairstyle is a nothing but a steal.
In a shining bald head, patches of hair shaped in the forms of a hockey stick, a ball, the sign of ‘My Heart Beats For Hockey’ and the bedazzled World Cup, have become the centre-of-attraction for people queuing in front of the Kalinga Stadium.
That perfect shapes styled in Deheri’s hair is headlined by big bold letters of ‘ODISHA’. That is not all as the style is painted in saffron, white and dark green shades depicting the Tricolor.
While several fans, both local and foreign, are posing with him, many are curious as to why he took an extreme step. And to this, Deheri casually replies, “In the hope of Team India winning the World Cup, I spent Rs 1000 for this haircut. Odisha has never seen a sport of this scale. What we had not been able to achieve in years, our CM has been able to do that this year. So, I feel proud and I have come all the way from Bargarh to witness it.”
Funnily, Deheri admits that he has never seen hockey. But, he wishes that he gets to see the sport. “I don’t have the tickets as I couldn’t purchase any online. Thus, I have come here to try my luck. If I don’t get a chance to enter the Stadium, at least I will entertain the fans by standing outside the gate.”
While the die-hard fans throng the galleries to support their teams, it is fans like Deheri that add color to the sport and make all the difference.
