**Nayagarh**: In a horrific incident, the dead body of a [newborn baby](https://www.ommcomnews.com/public/newborn-s-body-found-lying-on-main-road-hours-together) was found feasted by stray dogs in Park Lane of Nayagarh district. It seems that the infant was discarded in a drain nearby which attracted the canine predators.
It is not yet known whether the baby was already dead when attacked by the dogs. There have been several cases of abandonment of newborns and infanticide reported in last few months in Odisha.
As soon as the locals noticed it, they chased the dogs but the infant’s body parts had already been gorged upon by them. Both the legs and a hand were missing when the body of the infant was finally released from the clutches of a dog.
The police reached the spot and have recovered the mutilated body. The gender of the baby and the reason behind his abandonment is yet to be ascertained.
Investigation is on.
