Bhubaneswar: How safe are hostels? Away from home, hostels are supposed to make students feel secure. But, a private engineering college's hostel in Bhubaneswar has turned nothing less than a prison.

In a video shared by one Sanghamitra Bhujabal, warden Biswaranjan Rana has been caught on camera brutally thrashing students for scoring less marks. He can be heard asking the students "How much have you scored" while cracking the whip on them.

Several people have commented on the post demanding action against the warden. The comments address the video as 'inhuman' and 'prison-like'. While the videos were posted on Facebook on Sunday, the day of the incident has not been ascertained.

Soon after the videos went viral, Principal of the Institute Sudhansu Moharana terminated Rana's services and filed an FIR against him at Khandagiri police station for giving physical punishment to students. "Such a behavior is against the law and we condemn this," he said.

But surprisingly, the students have voiced their no objections to the warden's corporal punishment. They said that the warden was thrashing them as a corrective measure to make sure that they score well the next time. "Our parents have given the warden authority to thrash us. So, we have no objections," they said.
