Nayagarh: Hundreds of unused medicines were found dumped under a bridge in Gochabari area under Khandapada police limits here today morning. Sources said that some of these medicines had expired while some could still be used.

The exact reason behind this incident and who dumped the medicines is yet to be ascertained. Fear and panic gripped locals after they witnessed the scene early this morning. Many also alleged that the incident comes as a huge shock as shops in the area had shortage of medicines.

Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Nayagarh Sweta Mohapatra said, “We are investigating into the matter and it is yet to be known whether the medicines were of government or they belonged to a private company.”

“Daily 1500 patients are coming to us and medicines are being given free of cost which is a great step by Government for the people. So if medicines are being thrown away without reaching people, we will take strict action,” he added.
