Odisha Incurs Loss Of Rs 11,942 Cr Due To Cyclone FANI

Bhubaneswar: The State Government has incurred a loss of Rs 11,942 crore due to Cyclone FANI, as per a report published by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.

The preliminary report on extremely severe cyclonic storm FANI has categorized the losses of various departments under the State Government.

While the Water Resources department has reported loss of Rs 37,301.20 lakh, loss of Works department stands at Rs 59,732.30 lakh. Loss of Rural Development department at Rs 43,717.68 lakh and Housing & Urban Development department has incurred loss to a tune of Rs 52,434.87 lakh.

A loss of Rs 58,703.33 lakh has been reported by Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water department and of Rs 10,230.53 lakh by Agriculture department. Energy department has reported loss of Rs 1,15,980 lakh and Fisheries & Animal Resources department of Rs 5,543.97 lakh.

A loss of Rs 592.24 lakh has been reported by the ST and SC Development, Minorities and Backward Classes department and of Rs 7,248.50 lakh by the Women and Child Development department.

The Textile and Handloom department has reported loss of Rs 7431.36 lakh and Cooperation department of Rs 1741.44 lakh.

The Higher Education department a loss of Rs 29,600 lakh, Health and Family Welfare department of Rs 1,276.25 lakh, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities  (SSEPD) department of Rs 1,825 lakh, Labour and ESI department of Rs 78 lakh and Forest and Environment department of Rs 53,780 lakh.

A loss of Rs 1,917 lakh reported by Tourism department, of Rs 1,094 lakh by School and Mass Education department, of Rs 3,057 lakh by Skill Development and Technical Education department and Rs 1,374.39 lakh by Electronics & Information Technology department.

The Industries department has reported loss of Rs 15,269.07 lakh and Odia Language Literature and Culture department of Rs 7,274 crore.

Similarly, properties worth Rs 510 lakh of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri has been damaged and Rs 6,76,756 lakh has been spent towards relief and response.

In total, the Odisha government has incurred a huge loss of Rs 11,94,268.13 lakh (Rs 11,942 crore approximately).

As per the report, a total of Rs 1720.24 crore, including Central and State share, was made available to the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), out of which Rs 444.45 crore has been utilised while the balance Rs 1275.79 crore is available with the SDRF now as on May 11, 2019.

The State Government will submit the report to the Centre’s inter-ministerial team today during a meeting at the State Secretariat to release funds from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
