Bhubaneswar: Kendrapada district has been chosen by the Odisha Government for implementation of water conservation projects under Jal Shakti Abhiyan which was launched by the Centre on Monday.
Water Resources Department Minister Raghunandan Das said that the world is in the brink of a grave water crisis and to check this conservation measures are the need of the hour. “In Odisha, we will start pilot projects on rain water harvesting in Kendrapada district and later expand the scope of these projects to other districts,” he said.
The scheme (Jal Shakti Abhiyan) is aimed at making water conservation and promotion of irrigation efficiency a mass movement through asset creation and communication campaigns.
In his Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday called upon people to start a mass movement for water conservation and resolve to save every drop of water amidst water scarcity in several parts of the country.
Modi said an awareness campaign should be started which should not only focus on water-related problems but also propagate ways to save water.
