**Bhubaneswar:** Soon after the five-year term completion of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Odisha government appointed commissioner-cum-secretary of Cooperation Department Krishan Kumar as the administrator of the civic body on Wednesday.
Reportedly, the five-year-term of the civic body completed on January 16, following which Housing and Urban Development Department, in a notification said that Kumar will now discharge the duties of the Corporation and its Mayor as the administrator till the first meeting of the newly-elected corporators.
The appointment has been made as per sub-section (6) of section 48 of the Odisha Municipal Corporation Act, 2003 (Odisha Act, 11 of 2003), the notification added.
The BMC elections could not take place in due time because a case is pending in Supreme Court related to reservation of seats in the civic bodies, stated reports.
It is notable to mention here that, 2002 batch IAS officer had been appointed commissioner-cum-secretary of Cooperation department this January after serving for over four years as BMC commissioner. Shuham Saxena had taken over the commissioner post.
