Bhubaneswar: Odisha is the largest lemon and mushroom producing State in the country, informed Agriculture Minister Arun Sahoo in the State Assembly today.
“Odisha is now the No.1 producer of lemons and mushrooms in the country. The State ranks second in production of brinjals and is fourth surplus State in paddy production in the country,” Sahoo said while replying to a query in the House during Zero Hour.
Sahoo stated that at the insistence of the State government many youngsters took interest in farming during the Covid-19 pandemic and as a result of that agricultural production has gone up in the State.
The Minister informed that Odisha exports 700 MT of rice to different countries and the State government aims to increase it to 1,000 MT in the coming days.
Sahoo admitted that though there has been a significant increase in agricultural production, maximum number of cold storages are lying defunct in the State.
