Bhubaneswar: The Health and Family Welfare Department has launched a state-wide campaign, “Stop Diarrhoea,” to prevent waterborne disease diarrhoea during the monsoon season. The campaign, which began today and will continue until July 31, aims to create awareness about good hygiene practices and provide improved healthcare services to prevent and control diarrhea.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling inaugurated the campaign at Bhuban Community Health Centre in Dhenkanal district. He emphasized that both the Central and State Governments are committed to protecting the health of the people, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The campaign includes extensive awareness programs, improved healthcare services, and the distribution of ORS packets, zinc tablets, and medicines. All Anganwadi centers, Health centers, Community health Centers, and primary health centers have been stocked with these essential supplies.
Health workers have been trained to detect and manage diarrheal diseases, and they will be going door-to-door to distribute awareness materials and provide guidance on prevention and treatment. The Minister advised the public to follow the advice of health workers and doctors and seek medical treatment promptly if symptoms appear.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Minister distributed ORS and zinc tablet packets to women present. Dhenkanal MP Rudra Narayan Pani, local MLAs, and district officials were also present, emphasizing the importance of health awareness and protection.
The State Health Department has also released an Information, Education, and Public Communication (IEC) magazine and information leaflets related to diarrhoea awareness and child health protection. Through video conferencing, district-level health officials were briefed on the objectives and management of the campaign, including the use of ORS, fluids, and zinc for children aged 0-5 years with diarrhoea.
