Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here predicted thunderstorms and lightning at a few places in 18 Odisha districts during the next 24 hours under the influence of the prevalent monsoon trough and a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. At the same time, the IMD on Sunday issued yellow warnings for rain and thundershowers in several districts of Odisha for the next five days.
The mid-day bulletin of the weather office said, “Low-pressure area over the monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Jaisalmer, the center of low southeast Rajasthan and adjoining west Madhya Pradesh, Sagar, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur, Digha and thence east-southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal.”
It has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places over the districts of north Odisha and south coastal Odisha and at a few places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada.
Heavy rainfall is also very likely to occur in one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Keonjhar.
